About BLIS

BUPS (Bilkent University Preparatory School) and Bilkent were founded in 1993 by doctor and philanthropist İhsan Doğramacı, which later became BLIS (Bilkent Laboratory and International School).

When first created, BUPS had Grades 6, 7, 8, and Pre-school. Its goal was to promote the growth and development of students academically, aesthetically, physically, and socially, while also acknowledging abilities, interests and talents of individual children. The school stimulated the inquiry of ideas, the search for knowledge, as well as critical and independent thinking and creativity in students.

After expanding to Grade 9 in 1994, BUPS also started providing the IGCSE program and courses, approved to do so by the University of Cambridge International Examinations.

Later in 1998, Grades 1-5 were also added to BUPS, making it a Pre-K - Grade 12 school. Soon after, it was decided that the school would additionally provide BIS for international students from Grade 6 and onwards, leading to BUPS’ change to BLIS in 2009.

Since its founding, BLIS has achieved its goal by becoming an IB World School offering the programs PYP, MYP, IGCSE, and IBDP.
